From one man’s vision to serve the airlines’ carpet needs, Ser-Mat Corp. was founded.
In 1959 one particular airline was struggling to find a way to remove cigarette burns from aircraft carpet without replacing the entire carpet.
George Meyer Jr., CEO and founder of Ser-Mat Corp., developed what he called the “cookie cutter” method of removing the affected area of carpet and replacing it with a new piece without ever noticing that the carpet had been repaired. That was 1959 and the company was Eastern Airlines. From that time, Ser-Mat and Eastern Airlines enjoyed a great business relationship for the next 31 years.
Today, almost 50 years later Ser-Mat Corp. has become the largest supplier and holds the largest inventory of certified aircraft carpet in existence. This gives you, the customer, the opportunity to select among hundreds of designs in our inventory, or work together with us and the manufacturer to custom design a carpet which fits your aircraft interior.

This ensures quick replacement of any carpet segment without ever needing a mechanic to un-trap a carpet segment.
